Some grey day snapshots of our newest home on South Atherton Street. This house is not for sale just yet as it has some work to do before it is ready for our newest family. What work, you ask? This home is the first home in our Energy+ Pilot Project, an energy efficiency capital improvement initiative we are undertaking with other housing organizations in the Borough. All new acquisitions to the Land Trust already undergo evaluations for health and safety, and any necessary renovations needed to mitigate lead and bring the homes up to code compliance before they are sold. Homes in our new Energy+ Program will also be evaluated for energy performance, with the aim of improving the efficiency of these homes before they are sold. This endeavor is a continuation of the collaboration between SCCLT, Borough Planning Staff, the Hamer Center for Community Design and the Energy Efficient Housing Research Center at Penn State and the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center begun during the GreenBuild project. SCCLT will purchase and rehab 2 to 3 homes in the pilot phase of this project, learning how to include energy performance in the Land Trust's acquisition and rehab process. Later phases of this project will seek to apply information gathered about the scope and cost of improving energy performance in Land Trust homes to the entire SCCLT portfolio. Follow our progress as we begin this exciting project! The next step for this home is to undergo an energy audit. Check back soon for updates, and enjoy this sneak peak of the home while we wait for sunnier days.

Hi, I manage the Home in State College page and grew up in a red brick duplex on Center Lane. I love that you are restoring these homes and making them affordable as well as energy efficient. Can you tell me how many of the red brick duplexes you have bought and renovated? And do you need volunteers to help work on these homes? Thank you!

Hi Diana! So lovely to hear about your history with these homes. They are really neat, and we really enjoy getting to know each new one that we acquire. I believe that 8 of these gems, between S. Atherton and Center Lane have become Land Trust homes over the years. We generally only do work on them when we first acquire them, to get them ready for their new owner. As such, we may hold a work day or two at this house, sometime soon. We can email you when that is happening, if you would like! Thanks for saying hello, Diana!
