Building Permanently Affordable Homes. Strengthening Our Community.

For more than 30 years, State College Community Land Trust has helped create and preserve permanently affordable, energy-efficient homes in Centre County. We believe everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home, and we're building a stronger community one homeowner at a time.

Our Mission

To create and steward permanently affordable, energy-efficient homes that strengthen individuals, families, and neighborhoods.

Homeowner

Our goal is to sustain the vibrancy and diversity of the Borough community by promoting affordable homeownership in State College, Pennsylvania. SCCLT helps first-time homebuyers purchase homes that are in established neighborhoods near work, schools, entertainment and transit. We have helped 81+ households become successful homeowners since 1996.

How does a community land trust (CLT) work?

  1. SCCLT buys a modest borough house and rehabilitates it for energy efficiency and code compliance.

  2. Educates and counsels applicants in financial readiness and applying for a mortgage.

  3. Sells only the house to an applicant who meets federal income guidelines.

  4. Leases the land to the homeowner in a long-term agreement, cutting the cost by at least 30 percent.

  5. Homeowners can sell the house in the future to another qualified family or back to SCCLT, based on a resale formula.

The State College Community Land Trust is:

One of 250 community land trusts in U.S. that provide affordable housing in a shared equity model.

SCCLT is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with open membership and a democratically elected board of trustees.
